Make Google's safety features available globally

The Issue

Why, when there is the technology and opportunity, to not have a chance to live? Google’s decision to limit critical safety features like Car Crash Detection and Fall Detection to a select few regions globally deprives millions of people from utilizing technology that could potentially save lives. Apple, a direct competitor, already offers such lifesaving technology in many parts of the world, recognizing the universal need for safety. By not doing the same, Google is denying people the right to basic safety, which is not just unfair but potentially life-threatening.

Car accidents and falls are among the leading causes of injuries and fatalities worldwide. The World Health Organization highlights that 1.35 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes, while falls are the second leading cause of accidental deaths globally. When technology exists to help mitigate these tragedies, it is unconscionable that access to these features is restricted by geography.

Google has always been at the forefront of innovation, creating tools and services that connect and enhance lives across the globe. Yet, with safety features like Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection for watches, and monitoring features like Loss of Pulse, they have taken a step back by implementing regional restrictions. Many Google Pixel users around the world are left out, unable to benefit from these vital tools simply because of where they live.

It’s time for Google to remove these barriers and make safety features available to every Google Pixel user, irrespective of their location. Technology knows no borders, and the safety of individuals should not be compromised based on geography. We call upon Google to prioritize the safety of everyone by enabling Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and other crucial safety features worldwide.

If you agree that everyone deserves access to technology that can help protect and save lives, please sign this petition. Let's urge Google to turn potential into reality and embrace their global responsibility towards ensuring the safety of all their users. Your signature could lead to meaningful change.
