As of May 2025, the Central Bucks School District (CBSD) has made significant strides in integrating girls’ flag football into its athletic programs, aligning with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (PIAA) recent sanctioning of the sport.
PIAA Sanctioning of Girls’ Flag Football
In September 2024, the PIAA officially sanctioned girls’ flag football as a high school sport, set to take effect in the 2025–26 school year. This decision followed the sport’s rapid growth across Pennsylvania, bolstered by initiatives from the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. The PIAA plans to develop a comprehensive rulebook and implement a playoff system, with official state championships anticipated in the 2026–27 school year.
Central Bucks School District’s Progress
CBSD has proactively embraced this development. All three high schools—Central Bucks East, Central Bucks South, and Central Bucks West—have established girls’ varsity flag football teams. These teams are actively participating in the Suburban One League, engaging in regular-season games and preparing for postseason competitions.
Central Bucks West: The girls’ varsity flag football team has a dedicated section on the school’s athletics website, featuring schedules, rosters, and other pertinent information.
Central Bucks South: Similarly, CB South’s team details are available on their athletics platform, indicating active participation in the sport.

These initiatives reflect CBSD’s dedication to providing diverse athletic opportunities for female students and fostering the growth of girls’ flag football in alignment with state-level developments.
