I am one of the millions worldwide who cannot consume dairy or gluten due to health conditions. This is not a choice, but a necessity in order to feel well.

Conditions that affect what people can eat such as allergies, Coeliac disease, lactose intolerance, gluten intolerance and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are not a choice. The prices for 'free from' foods are extortionate and it's time we address this issue.

According to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), up to 15 million Americans have food allergies. In the UK alone, Coeliac UK estimates that 1 in 100 people suffer from Coeliac disease. These figures do not even account for those with lactose intolerance or IBS.

The high cost of specialized foods places an undue burden on individuals who already face significant health challenges. It's unjust that these essential items are taxed like luxury goods when they're necessities for many of us.

We call upon our government representatives to make all 'free from' foods tax-free. This change will significantly reduce the financial strain on those with dietary restrictions due to medical conditions and will promote equality in our food system.
