We did it! The government have u-turned on scrapping this historic food waste law! Now the law is back on the table – will you tweet at Steve Barclay to raise pressure?
For over a decade, UK businesses have mostly kept their food waste secret, stopping us from knowing how much food is wasted, and meaningfully tackling the problem. Now, a historic law could break the deadlock by making all businesses report their food waste publicly.
The government disgracefully scrapped plans for this vital law, despite 99% of the public and the majority of businesses supporting it.
But now we’ve now successfully won a u-turn, putting the law back on the table! So thank you!
Over 15,000 of you signed this petition, over 2,400 of you emailed your MP, 29 MPs signed our motion and 29 organisations signed our statement. Not only that, but Feedback launched a legal challenge of the government’s decision. Faced with all this, when Steve Barclay replaced Thérèse Coffey in a government reshuffle last November, he backed down on scrapping the food waste law – and we’re now expecting a decision on whether the government will introduce the law in the coming months!
But it’s still not certain the law will be introduced – we need to raise pressure on the government to get this law over the line!
Tweet at Steve Barclay to call on him to introduce mandatory food waste reporting!

Thanks again for joining the fight against food waste!
