Make English an Official Language in New Zealand

The issue

Rawiri Waititi, a notable figure in our parliament, recently stated that it took 20 years and 30,000 signatures to get Te Reo officially listed as an official language of New Zealand. This fact resonates deeply with me and many others who believe in linguistic equality. It's only fair that at least the same number of people - 30,000 - should want English to also be recognized officially.

New Zealand is a diverse country with over 4 million people. According to the latest census data from Statistics New Zealand, approximately 96% of the population speaks English (Statistics NZ). Despite this overwhelming majority, English is not currently recognized as an official language by law.

This petition seeks to rectify this oversight and ensure that all major languages spoken within our borders are given equal recognition under the law. We believe this step will further promote unity among our diverse population while respecting everyone's linguistic heritage.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a move towards greater inclusivity and recognition for all languages spoken in New Zealand - starting with making English an official language. Please sign today!
