Today is Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday. MLK day is celebrated on the third Monday of January but his birthday lands on January 17. I could see why it's the third Monday as it could give people a 3 day weekend. What makes more sense is to make election day a federal holiday than to make MLK the 3rd Monday to give people a 3 day weekend rather than having MLK day actually on MLK's birthday. I could see it's good to celebrate his birthday as he did his best to help expand the rights of black people but it seems to make more sense if MLK day was on his birthday. At times, Election Day becoming a federal holiday makes more sense than others. Presidents Day being on the 3rd Monday of February makes a little more sense than MLK day as Presidents Day celebrates both Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays and MLK day is just MLK's birth. Memorial Day was originally a specific day in May but became the last Monday because people wanted the 3 day weekend. I feel like MLK day helps show much sense Election Day being a Federal Holiday. I might go on a similar rant on Monday.
Today is also Steve Harvey's birthday. He was born on this day in 1957 in Welch, West Virginia. He is likely most well known for being the host of Family Feud since 2010. He also hosts Celebrity Family Feud (a version of family feud where celebrities compete to win money for their favorite charity) and Family Feud Africa (the South African version of Family Feud). He had written 4 books. Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man in 2009; Straight Talk, No Chaser in 2010; Act like a Success in 2014; and Jump, Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance. Harvey is definitely a face of American Culture and definitely someone to talk about when it comes to a petition about the United States. February is Black History Month and say we're starting on it a little early.
