Make education on colonisation and tax mandatory in schools

Make education on colonisation and tax mandatory in schools
The Issue
I personally can't sleep at night knowing I did nothing to try and create a safer and more ethical future for the next generation of human beings. The importance of understanding our past, including the complex history of colonisation, and how our systems, like taxation, work, cannot be overstated. By educating our children on these topics, we ensure that they are equipped with the knowledge to understand the world around them and to make informed decisions they won't regret in the future.
Currently, many educational curriculums lack comprehensive content on colonisation and its far-reaching impact on the world today. This deficiency leaves students ignorant of historical and cultural contexts that are crucial for nurturing empathy and global awareness.
Additionally, understanding taxes and how they function is critical for civic engagement and financial literacy. Taxes are an integral part of our economic system, directly affecting public services, infrastructure, and social programs that people rely on every day.
By integrating these subjects into school curriculums, we empower the future generation to confront past atrocities and prevent their recurrence. Furthermore, students will gain essential life skills to navigate the complexities of civic duties and financial responsibilities.
If our schools incorporate these subjects, we would foster a society that is not only informed but also conscientious regarding the actions that shape our world. Prioritizing these educational advancements would contribute significantly to preventing uninformed decisions that could enable authoritarian dominance and loss of global freedoms.
Join me in urging educational policymakers to include comprehensive lessons on colonisation and tax in school curriculums. Sign this petition to demand change and make a lasting impact on the education of young minds.
