The Issue

Irresponsible driving has become an inescapable problem for those who not only live in Florida, but all across the country. As much as driving tests and the lack of alcohol may help, it does not help to know that people will still drive knowing they do it recklessly. My aunt has been a victim of over 3 car crashes. One, when she was (around) 20, that caused brain damage, one less than 2 years ago that was caused by a semi-truck (Person coming out of the median and heading towards her. His tire blew out, however he was not paying attention. This event traumatized my aunt deeply. It has been 3 years and she has still not received justice or any compensation towards her and my cousin.)  And one just today that totaled her car completely. As of right now, she is sitting in the hospital with a neck brace and severe numbness to her legs. Nobody should have to go through the pain of somebody else’s actions, especially not somebody recklessly driving when they know they should not. The culprit had a boat attached to his car, further increasing the impact and damage done. Road safety is more than suing or taking things to court. It kills people. It hurts people. It could be your family, your friend, even your own child one day that could fall victim to an accident. To prevent that, this petition wants every 5 years or so a drivers test to be retaken. Especially for elderly people. Car crashes don’t always happen due to drunk driving, and sometimes it is purely on the fact of somebody’s irresponsibility with a vehicle. It is especially horrible in busy streets/highways. I want to lessen the amount of crashes on the road and provide safety and reassurance to those looking for means of transportation.
