Make December 22–23 Part of Winter Break at Champlin Park High School

The Issue

Every student, teacher, and family at Champlin Park High School and across the Anoka-Hennepin School District deserves a Christmas or Winter Break that actually allows time to rest, recharge, and be with family. For the 2025–2026 school year, that is not the case. Monday, December 22, and Tuesday, December 23 are currently scheduled as regular school days, just days before Christmas Eve.

For my family and many others, these two isolated school days create unnecessary disruption. Many families travel or gather with relatives during this time, making attendance difficult and learning ineffective. Students struggle to focus, and teachers are placed in the position of grading and planning during what should be a meaningful and restorative holiday period, often pushing work into Christmas Eve itself.

On paper, this may seem like a small scheduling decision. In reality, it has a real impact on attendance, stress levels, and overall wellbeing across the school community. Two days of school immediately before a major holiday provide little educational value while creating significant personal and logistical strain.

We are urging Champlin Park High School and the Anoka-Hennepin School District to officially close school on December 22 and December 23, 2025, and designate them as part of the Christmas or Winter Break. This simple change would show respect for students, teachers, and families and align the school calendar with common sense and community values.

This is a small adjustment with a meaningful impact. Please sign this petition to help make our winter break a true break for everyone.
