Make Crown Street Safe: Add Lights, Footpath & Crossing at Medlock St, Grantham Farm

The issue

My Sister, a young woman was recently struck by a vehicle while walking home from the bus stop at the corner of Crown Street and Medlock Street in Grantham Farm. She was crossing Medlock to reach the only footpath when the driver — turning from Crown into Medlock — didn’t see her in time. She was knocked to the ground. It could have been far worse.

This stretch of Crown Street has no pedestrian footpath, no street lighting, and no safe crossing. Pedestrians, including students, parents with prams, elderly residents, and workers, are forced to walk along a muddy, uneven verge or directly on the road in total darkness. The single light at the intersection is not enough to illuminate approaching pedestrians.

We are calling on Blacktown City Council to take immediate action and prevent another injury or death. Specifically, we request:

1. Street lighting along Crown Street leading into Medlock Street
2. A proper pedestrian footpath from the bus stop to Medlock
3. A safe, marked pedestrian crossing at the intersection
4. A formal safety audit of the area

This isn’t about blame — it’s about protecting our community.

Let’s fix this before the next person is hurt.

Please sign and support the call for urgent improvements.
