Make Crane Avenue South and Norton Avenue Safe in Taunton, MA

Make Crane Avenue South and Norton Avenue Safe in Taunton, MA
The Issue
PLEASE DO NOT DONATE MONEY WHERE IT IS REQUESTED.
Because they are a cut through to a major industrial park, our daily routines on Crane Avenue South and Norton Avenue have become increasingly dangerous. Our narrow streets without sidewalks, expose us to the constant danger posed by speeding vehicles and heavy truck traffic traveling to and from this industrial park. These conditions render walking, biking, and even driving a hazardous endeavor. The lack of basic infrastructure jeopardizes our safety and deprives us of the simple pleasure of using our streets freely and without fear of being hit. There have also already been several accidents and close calls on these roads.
This issue is of utmost urgency for the safety of our residents as well as the presence of ballfields and two schools located right on these roads. Our children should be able to walk or bike to school safely. Parents and guardians should not be plagued by anxiety every time their children take these routes. The bustling traffic, especially high-speed trucks, exacerbates the problem, making it a pressing concern for the community.
A study by the Federal Highway Administration demonstrates that streets with pedestrian-friendly amenities such as sidewalks and bike lanes not only increase safety but also enhance the neighborhood's quality of life.
Implementing these measures on Crane Avenue South and Norton Avenue could protect our students, pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. More than just a local issue, this is about valuing the lives and safety of those who reside in and frequent this area including residents, students & teachers at the schools and the ball players and their families.
We are calling on local authorities and city planners to prioritize this issue and take immediate action. Introducing no-through trucking, redirecting traffic to the main road of Route 140 where it should be, funding studies to get accurate traffic data, providing more police presence to catch and ticket speeders, more and improved marked crosswalks, reducing the speed limit, installing speed bumps, and creating dedicated bike and pedestrian paths are achievable solutions that could significantly mitigate the dangers we face.
Your support could make a difference in ensuring a safer environment for all. Let us urge our leaders to recognize the necessity of these changes by signing this petition today. Together, we can make Crane Avenue South and Norton Avenue a safer place for everyone.
