The Issue

I am profoundly convinced that as a society we need to create more areas that promote positive community interaction and involvement, especially for our younger generation. Skateparks provide this opportunity. Not merely a concrete construction, they embody an environment that encourages engagement, learning, and community spirit. I believe that having more skateparks accessible to everyone who enjoys biking, scootering, and skateboarding would be one effective way of deterring our youth from unlawful activities, by providing them with an engaging, enjoyable, and positive alternative.

There is an increasing body of evidence that supports this view. For instance, according to a study from the Tony Hawk Foundation, skateparks are incredible community-building tools, fostering a sense of belonging and healthy physical activity (Tony Hawk Foundation, 2017). Moreover, by ensuring that these parks are integrated into big spaces and open areas, we will also be making these positive spaces more accessible to a broader range of individuals.

This petition is thus seeking commitment from city planners and policymakers to integrate concrete skateparks into design and plans for large parks or open spaces. This action would welcome more inclusivity for all bikers, scooter users, and skateboarders, and open up an avenue for our youth to participate in constructive and community-building activities. Let’s provide our younger generation with the environment they need to grow positively and to trust their community. Sign this petition. Help us to bring about this change for our community and for our youth.
