Make Clinton School District Playgrounds Accessible and Inclusive for All

Make Clinton School District Playgrounds Accessible and Inclusive for All
The Issue
My son, Rowan Smith, is a student at CES in Clinton, IL. Rowan has cerebral palsy and uses a reverse walker to assist him. Since moving to the district four years ago, we have been battling with recess and equal access to playgrounds. This struggle is not unique to us; it affects other families within our school district too.
Children with disabilities face numerous challenges daily. One of these should not be accessing their school's playground - a place meant for fun, relaxation, and social interaction. Unfortunately, this is the harsh reality for many children in our district and across the US.
The lack of accessible equipment on our playgrounds sends an unfortunate message about inclusivity within our community. It suggests that children like my son are an afterthought rather than valued members of the student body.
We are calling on the Clinton School District authorities to take immediate action by updating all district-owned playgrounds so they are accessible and inclusive for all students regardless of physical ability or mobility issues.
This issue goes beyond just my family - it affects every child who struggles with accessibility issues at school every day. Let's create an environment where all children can play together without barriers or limitations because they deserve nothing less than that!
Please sign this petition urging the Clinton School District board and administration to make all their playgrounds accessible and inclusive now!
