The Issue

The 1998 movie Blade starring Wesley Snipes as Eric Brooks a.k.a. Blade saved Marvel’s cinema prospects entirely, and also revived the superhero genre. Much of the success was due to Wesley Snipes performance as the half human half vampire hero. Before the Blade film came out Marvel filed for bankruptcy in 1996, and was in grave financial trouble at the time. They were forced to sell off Spider Man to Sony, The Incredible Hulk to Paramount, Daredevil, X-Men, and The Fantastic Four to 21st Century Fox. Things weren't looking good for Marvel.

They had also sold the rights to Blade to New Line Cinema for roughly 25k. New Line Cinema spent 45 million making the first Blade film and earned 131 million making the movie a box office success. The Blade Trilogy of films made 415 million in their entirety. What makes this a remarkable story is that Blade in the comics is a C list character, but Wesley Snipes breathed new life into the character, and made it a profitable Marvel character.

The first Blade film that was directed by Stephen Norrington was well received, as was the second film that was directed by Guillermo Del Toro. The third film that was directed by David S Goyer had a lukewarm reception due to the storyline. Wesley Snipes had a different vision for the third film, but was forced to go along with the script. Wesley's vision for Blade 3 was one of a post apocalyptic future where vampires took over. Sadly we never got to see his vision realized, but a fourth movie in the series would fix that, and could bring Wesley's vision to reality.

Eight years after the third film was released vicious rumors were spread about Wesley's composure, and behavior on the set of Blade 3 by a minor actor in the film. Some of which were completely false while others were greatly embellished. The truth is that Wes was rightfully upset about the changes to the story, and turned against the project. This caused friction on the set of the third film, and in hindsight Wesley was right because the third film is the least liked in the trilogy. Many critics also don't seem to realize, or want to acknowledge that Wesley was not only the main star of the movie, but he was also one of the film's producers. This means that he was an authority on the set of the film, and he had every right to contest things on the set of the movie that he didn't like.

Things went quiet with the Blade series for many years, but then in 2018 word got out that Wesley Snipes was in talks with Marvel to reprise his role as Blade. Wesley Snipes fans, and Blade fans rejoiced. Then came the crushing news that Mahershala Ali interfered by calling up Kevin Feige president of Marvel Studios asking for the role of Blade, and they just gave it to him. Wesley Snipes fans were furious about the decision to recast the role instead of letting Wes reprise his role as Blade. Four years passed after the announcement to reboot the Blade series with a new actor was made. Numerous delays, and mishaps plague the Blade reboot with directors, and writers walking away from the project.

Meanwhile, there was a very awesome surprise awaiting Blade fans hidden inside Deadpool and Wolverine. Theaters worldwide erupted with joy when Wesley Snipes walked out as our favorite vampire slayer Blade. With the massively popular return of Wesley Snipes as a Blade variant in Deadpool and Wolverine the direction on what to do with the next Blade project is very clear. Massive amounts of fans are demanding to see more Blade films with Wesley Snipes reprising his role as the Daywalker.

Marvel made over a billion dollars giving their fans and customers what they wanted by bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Daphne Keen as X-23 etc. If Marvel wants to continue making money then bringing back Wesley Snipes in a new full feature film of his own is a no brainer. We want to see Wesley in a new Blade film! If you feel the same way join us in our fight to bring back Wesley Snipes as Blade, and sign the petition to make Blade 4 a reality !!!
