Make Beach Lifeguards and Safety Flags Mandatory Across the UK

Make Beach Lifeguards and Safety Flags Mandatory Across the UK
The Issue
I became very concerned after swimming at Ayr beach, as I was dangerously close to large jellyfish. I was concerned about the fact that there was no warning about them. Also, I noted that there were no safety flags or signs to indicate which parts of the beach were safe to swim in. This lack of safety measures is alarming and poses a significant risk to all beachgoers. It is therefore essential to pass legislation to make beach lifeguards, signs and flags mandatory in all of the UKs major beaches.
According to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), around 200 people drown around UK coasts each year. Many of these tragedies could be prevented with proper lifeguard services and clear safety flag systems in place. In addition to this, I am aware that a great many beaches in the UK do not have lifeguards or flags. Governments and Local authorities should apportion a greater amount of funding to providing these services. This is particularly relevant to Scotland, as only a tiny fraction of our beaches have lifeguards.
We need mandatory lifeguards and safety flags on all of the major beaches across the UK to ensure everyone's safety. This service should be guaranteed in all beach towns and cities with a population of 5,000 or more. Please sign this petition to urge local councils and government bodies to take immediate action for safer beaches! We must make our beaches safer, as this will help people feel comfortable swimming in them. This will also be good for enthusiasts of water sports, and it must be done. If the authorities in California, USA can lifeguard their beaches, the. So can we!
