Make Animal Cruelty a Felony Offense in Arizona Under Rudy's Law

As a dog owner and advocate, I am deeply disturbed by the recent case of animal neglect and abuse that took place in Chandler, AZ. Disabled dogs were subjected to unimaginable cruelty, leading to the tragic death of one dog named Rudy, along with four others that had to be humanely euthanized due to their condition.

As the this case develops, we are finding some of the dogs aren’t surviving this trauma unfortunately, because of the duration of neglect they endured.  This incident has prompted me to push for stronger animal welfare laws within the state of Arizona, which many still fall under misdemeanors.

Under proposed legislation known as "Rudy's Law", we aim to make all accounts of animal cruelty a felony offense in Arizona. Currently, most cases of animal cruelty are treated as misdemeanors under state law, which often results in lenient sentences that do not reflect the severity of these heinous acts.

According to The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), every year thousands of animals fall victim to neglect and abuse across America. In 2019 alone, HSUS reported over 1,200 cases involving severe animal cruelty nationwide - a figure that is likely far lower than reality due to underreporting.

By making animal cruelty a felony offense under Rudy's Law, we can ensure stricter penalties for offenders and send out a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in our society. We owe it not only to Rudy but also all animals who have suffered or lost their lives due to human negligence or malice.

Join us today by signing this petition and urging lawmakers in Arizona State Legislature to pass Rudy's Law - because no creature should ever have endure such pain at the hands of those who should protect them.
