Make All Netflix Extra (eg. Hidden) Categories Searchable

The Issue

Enhance Navigation and Empower Users by Unlocking Netflix’s Full Library

For over a decade, Netflix users have been calling for a way to search through the extensive extra categories available on the platform. Despite offering hundreds of niche selections—such as Cult Movies, Hidden Horror Gems, Anime Action, British TV Shows, and Critically-Acclaimed Indie Films—these categories remain unsearchable through the standard interface, leaving many subscribers frustrated when they can’t easily locate content that truly interests them.

Netflix’s current reliance on an algorithm to recommend content means that many users see the same limited offerings month after month. This approach has not only led to dissatisfaction for those who find the algorithm inadequate but has also pushed some users to cancel their subscriptions and explore other platforms. It’s clear that if Netflix truly wanted to meet the diverse tastes of its audience, they’d benefit from offering a more robust navigation system that includes these already existing categories.

By making extra categories searchable, Netflix could better serve its user base—ensuring that viewers can quickly find the content they’re passionate about while also potentially boosting subscriber retention and revenue. This change would address long-standing frustrations and move beyond the narrow, one-size-fits-all approach currently in place.

We urge Netflix to:

Implement a feature that allows users to directly search by extra categories.

Enhance content discoverability for those who feel underserved by algorithm-based recommendations.

Integrate these categories into the main search functionality to create a more intuitive and user-friendly platform.

Call to Action:

Sign this petition and share it with fellow Netflix users. Let’s push for a platform that caters to all tastes and keeps subscribers engaged for the long term.
