Hi Super Supporters!
Today I’m updating about a few things, so it is a bit of an all-rounder!
Firstly, I would like to everyone for continuing to take action with the campaign. It’s really having an influence and impact on decision makers. The recent proof of this is Sainsbury’s step to removing plastic tampon applicators from their range, which will save 2.7 tonnes of plastic annually!
I persistently engage and communicate with decision makers about the campaign, the steps they can take to make change happen and to request meetings with them to discuss it further. I’m pleased to announce that decision maker Bodyform have agreed to meet me in October.
Other work I’m doing:
- Urging the UK Government to use the period poverty fund on plastic-free products.
- Asking MPs to sign EDM #2511, which I worked on with Caroline Lucas. You can still ask yours to sign too, the instructions on how to do it are here on a previous campaign update.
- Raising awareness on social media of the hidden plastic in conventional brands and of the range of plastic-free and reusable options available.
- Doing filming, press and outreach to highlight the problem of plastic in menstrual products to a wider audience.
- Calling for plastic tampon applicators to be added to the single-use plastics ban.

Mashable has done an article about the campaign and the news of Sainsbury’s ditching plastic tampon applicators has been covered in the Metro, The Ecologist and My Green Pod. I was also thrilled this month to be nominated and listed as one of the 50 individuals on the Independent’s Happy List 2019 for my activism and campaigning efforts.
