Hello Super Supporters,

Thank you to everyone who took action on Superdrug last week by tweeting and emailing them, it has been having results! After last week’s Twitter action on Monday, Superdrug tweeted a statement in response to our calls for them to eliminate plastic from their own-brand period products!

This statement said:

1) Superdrug is committed to being a responsible retailer and understands the growing concern over the use of disposable plastics. At present in our own brand sanitary protection range our Standard Applicator Tampons have a standard cardboard tube & a cellulose wrap, which should

2) biodegrade in normal conditions, however we are currently working with our suppliers and manufacturers across the board to look at alternatives to plastic in our own brand products and packaging.

3) On all our tampon and sanitary pad packaging we state clearly that they should be placed in the bin after use, whether biodegradable or not, and should not be flushed.

As you can see in their statement, they have spoken about the fact that they have a range of tampons that come with cardboard applicators, that they state not to flush items on packaging and that they are working with suppliers to look at alternatives. They say they are committed to being a responsible retailer, however they aren’t committing to taking the important first steps towards removing plastic from their products.

Today I’m asking you to take action with me by adding your voice to Superdrug’s tweeted statement, you can do this by retweeting it with a comment. There is a suggested comment below, feel free to make your own, if you do remember to tag @superdrug and use the hashtag #EndPeriodPlastic!

Suggested tweet: Superdrug say that they are committed to being a responsible retailer, but still aren't committing to taking the important first steps towards eliminating plastic from their own-brand period products! @superdrug #EndPeriodPlastic now!

Thanks for all your continued support, let’s keep this wave of action going!

Ella :)
