Make all bus windows close softly

The Issue

When I use any bus that has windows that can be opened/closed, I am often concerned with a frustrating problem: the loud and disruptive noise caused by bus windows being slammed shut by other passengers who cannot be (or are not) bothered to ask the passenger(s) sitting near that window to close it. This simple yet annoying issue is not only irritating, but also disturbs the peace of other passengers, turning what could be a good journey into a series of loud bangs. Even just one slam of a bus window is completely unnecessary.

Public transport should be a space of comfort and tranquility, allowing passengers to relax or focus on their personal thoughts. However, the sometimes sudden and aggressive bangs of bus windows being slammed shut shatters this peace, impacting our collective commuting experience. Countless passengers rely on buses daily, and we all deserve a more peaceful environment.

Bus operators and manufacturers have the capacity to solve this problem. By installing mechanisms that allow windows to close softly (like soft-closing drawers, cupboards and cabinets), we can significantly enhance the quality of public transport for everyone.

Many modern transportation systems worldwide have adopted silent-closing technology, proving it's a feasible and effective solution. Let's push for the implementation of this technology across our public buses, starting with a pilot program in major cities.

Join me in urging transport authorities and bus companies to take action in making our daily commutes more pleasant. Sign this petition to demand quieter, more comfortable bus rides for all.
