Make Ala Moana Beach Park Dog-Friendly!

Make Ala Moana Beach Park Dog-Friendly!
The Issue
Ala Moana Beach Park is a beloved community space in Honolulu, offering a wide range of recreational activities and beautiful scenery for residents and visitors. However, current regulations prohibit dogs in the park, limiting the enjoyment of pet owners who consider their dogs as part of their family.
Currently, the only dog parks in the vicinity are Mother Waldron Park, Thomas Square Park, and Ala Wai Off-Leash Dog Park, which are quite a distance away from each other. This limited access to dog-friendly areas in the neighborhood makes it challenging for pet owners to find convenient locations for their dogs to exercise and socialize. Furthermore, according to the Hawaiian Humane Society, there are approximately 300,000 pet dogs on Oahu island, many of which are in Honolulu.
We propose a change to these regulations to allow dogs throughout Ala Moana Beach Park. We call on the City and County of Honolulu, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Honolulu City Council, and the Mayor of Honolulu to make this change. This change will foster a more inclusive environment, encouraging physical activity and social interaction among dog owners and their pets. By implementing specific guidelines, such as leash laws and designated waste disposal areas, we can ensure the park remains clean and safe for everyone.
Our goal is to gather community support to show the City and County of Honolulu that there is a strong desire for dog-friendly policies within Ala Moana Beach Park. We believe this change will enhance the park’s appeal and provide a more enjoyable experience for all.
Join us in making Ala Moana Beach Park a welcoming place for our furry friends. Sign this petition to support allowing dogs throughout the park!
