Make Agricultural Classes a Mandatory Part of High School Curriculum

The Issue

I grew up and work in the western/rodeo industry, a misunderstood sport and way of life. This personal experience has shown me the importance of understanding agriculture, not only for those who choose it as a profession but for everyone. Agriculture is the backbone of our society, providing food, fiber, and fuel that we all depend on daily. Despite its significance, many people are unaware of where their food comes from or how it's produced.

In 2017 alone, agriculture and related industries contributed $1.053 trillion to the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), a 5.4% share (USDA Economic Research Service). Yet our education system does not prioritize teaching students about this crucial sector.

Making agricultural classes mandatory in high school would bridge this knowledge gap and foster an appreciation for farming and ranching practices among our youth. It would also provide practical skills that can be applied in everyday life or pursued further through vocational training or higher education.

Let's give future generations an opportunity to understand the importance of agriculture in their lives by making agricultural classes a required course in high school curriculum nationwide. Please sign this petition to support this cause.
