Dear friends,
Japan first announced plans to discharge the treated water into the sea in 2018, saying the water will be further diluted by seawater before being released in a carefully controlled process that will take decades to complete. The Japanese government started releasing treated water from the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant on August 24, 2023.

According to experts in the fields of nuclear, marine ecological and environmental protection, the so-called scientific evidence in support of the dump does not hold up to scrutiny. The wastewater purification results are so questionable. Even if the ALPS process fully purifies the wastewater, it cannot remove the tritium and carbon-14 nuclides. As such, TEPCO plans to dilute it with seawater before the discharge. However, the total quantity of the radioactive material released would still be the same. The released radioactive materials will then be concentrated along the food chain until they finally reach human consumption. The half-life of tritium is 12.1 years, whereas the half-life of carbon-14 is 5700 years. The discharge of nuclear wastewater into the sea will inevitably have fatal adverse impact on the human lives and security and ecological environment.

Against this background, Japan still insists on going its own way, regardless of the opposition from the international community. The International Atomic Energy Agency also welcomed the decision, stating that "Japan’s chosen water disposal method is both technically feasible and in line with international practice," which is unimaginable.

The tsunami-damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant began its third release of treated and diluted radioactive wastewater into the sea on November 2. Over time, the Pacific Ocean will be contaminated by radiation, the situation is very serious. We want the Japanese government and the international community to hear our voices. The victims should file a lawsuit, demand compensation from Japan for related losses!

HOW DO WE ACT?

We call on the fishermen on the Pacific coast and other victims of the Fukushima nuclear wastewater discharge incident to contact us, tell us your stories and reflect the real situation and needs.

We welcome those who wish to help the victims of the Fukushima nuclear wastewater discharge incident, such as lawyers and other legal professionals can assist in collecting information and providing legal counseling and litigation services to the victims.

Professionals in environmental, nuclear issues and other related fields can express their opinions and publish professional reports. Let's View Science as a Powerful Tool.

We encourage environmental defenders and other people who oppose Japan's nuclear wastewater discharge plan to actively contact us and feel free to submit relevant text, images, videos, and other materials to us. We will use social platforms to help you expand your publicity so that more people will understand the risks of radioactive wastewater release.

Currently, we are convening major stakeholders such as fisherfolks, lawyers, researchers, and environmental defenders to organize a strong network. One person's ability is limited, so our goal is to collect as many voices as possible and strive to draw widespread attention from the international community and obtain a response from the authorities.
