Péniche ANAKO en péril !

Depuis 2009, la Péniche ANAKO a accueilli des centaines d’artistes et des milliers de visiteurs autour de concerts, jams, expositions, et conférences mettant en valeur les cultures du monde entier. Elle se retrouve aujourd’hui en grand danger.

La Ville de Paris a cette année organisé un appel d’offre afin de redistribuer les emplacements du Bassin de la Villette. Malheureusement le dossier de la Péniche ANAKO n’a pas été retenu ; nous avons reçu début juillet une lettre nous invitant à “organiser le départ de la péniche de Paris”. N’ayant à notre disposition aucun emplacement pour la péniche à partir de janvier 2018, nous nous voyons sommés de préparer la fin de nos activités.

Cette décision revient à faire disparaître une association dont la mission est unique.

ANAKO, la “Péniche des cultures du monde”, a œuvré sans relâche pour créer des rencontres et un engouement autour de cultures minoritaires menacées de disparition. Les cultures de plus de 75 pays ont été représentées dans la programmation de la Péniche ANAKO depuis sa création, ce qui a permis de formidables transmissions multiculturelles et des expériences musicales et artistiques difficiles à trouver ailleurs.
La Péniche ANAKO est aussi un lieu de création phénoménale. Ses jams orientales et ses jams bluegrass (des événements mensuels) ont été l’occasion de rencontres, d’improvisations, et de créations véritablement uniques, la jam n’étant pas un style d’événement très commun en France.
La Péniche ANAKO est enfin un lieu où la diaspora arménienne de France a pu se réunir et diffuser sa culture et son histoire.

Tout ce travail est aujourd’hui menacé. Et cette situation est d’autant plus regrettable que la Ville de Paris a retenu, à la place de la Péniche ANAKO et d’autres péniches indépendantes, les candidatures déposées par des organisations (dont un géant de la grande distribution) qui ont déjà de nombreux locaux à travers Paris. La survie de leur mission culturelle et artistique (si elles en ont une) ne dépend donc absolument pas de leur obtention d’un emplacement sur le Bassin de la Villette.

Nous demandons donc que la Ville de Paris revienne sur cette décision. Il est impératif que la Péniche ANAKO puisse continuer son travail de transmission et de création au vu de la communauté active et motivée qu’elle a construite depuis 2009.

Dear friends,

Since 2009, the Péniche Anako has welcomed hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors to concerts, jams, expositions, and speeches that bring to light the great wealth of cultures from around the world. Today, the future of Anako and the project that underpins it are under threat.

This year, the city of Paris released a request for proposals to determine which barges would be able to dock at the Bassin de la Villette. Unfortunately, the proposal we put forward to continue Anako’s mission was not selected. In early July, we received a letter asking us to prepare our “departure from Paris”. As the barge has no location available beginning in January, the message is clear that we must plan the end of our activities.

The city’s decision will ultimately result in the disappearance of an organization whose mission is unique.

Anako, the “barge of world cultures”, has with its team and the many artists who have passed through it, worked ceaselessly to create connections and enthusiasm about the threatened cultures of minority groups worldwide. The cultures of more than 75 countries have been represented in Anako’s programming since the barge’s opening—a process that has offered the opportunity for enlightening multicultural transmission, and for musical and artistic expression difficult to find elsewhere.

Anako is also a phenomenal place for creation. Its monthly bluegrass and oriental jams (a style of musical interaction rare in France) provide opportunities for socializing, improvisation, and unexpected mixing of styles.

Anako, finally, is a place where the Armenian diaspora can connect and highlight its culture and history.

All of this work is now in peril. And the situation is made worse by the fact that the city of Paris chose to replace Anako and several other independent barges with proposals put forward by organizations, including a multinational retailer, that already have several storefronts within the city. It suffices to say that the survival of their cultural and artistic mission (if they have one) does not depend on their having a barge on the Bassin de la Villette.

We therefore ask that the city of Paris reconsider this decision. It is vital that Anako be able to continue its work of cultural transmission and creativity in light of the active and motivated community it has sparked since 2009.
