Dear DSU Information Technology Services,

We, the students and alumni of DSU, write to address a concerning issue regarding the enforcement of DSU's Email Usage Policy 14.1 Section III Subsection L 1, which states: "Students Who Have Graduated or No Longer Enrolled at DSU shall maintain access to their email accounts as long as it is still active and regularly accessed pursuant to ITS specifications."

It has come to our attention that as of the Summer 2024 semester, ITS will begin terminating email accounts of DSU alumni, citing "regular maintenance and security protocols" and referencing the "Network Account Creation Policy" as justification. This action directly contradicts the Email Usage Policy promised to all students and alumni.

We believe this policy should be honored and that the termination of alumni email accounts is a breach of trust and a failure to uphold the commitments made to the DSU alumni. Access to DSU email is not just a convenience but a critical resource for maintaining professional and academic connections beyond students' years at DSU. It also acts as a direct form of communication within the DSU community, both by maintaining relationships with the DSU Foundation and giving access to the college's Slack where alumni can commonly be found conversing.

We therefore request that ITS ceases any further deactivation of alumni email accounts and take steps to restore access to those that may have already been terminated. We trust that ITS will respect the Email Usage Policy and ensure that alumni retain the access they were promised.
