Maintain AirPort Time Capsule Support

Maintain AirPort Time Capsule Support
Le problème
Apple has announced that macOS 27 will no longer support Time Capsule devices due to the deprecation of the AFP (Apple Filing Protocol).
Many users still rely on Time Capsule for backups, local network storage, and home Wi-Fi. The removal of support could lead to lost backups, increased electronic waste, and additional costs. This petition requests that Apple maintain basic compatibility, provide a longer transition period, or, if support is removed, provide an open-source framework allowing the community to maintain Time Capsule functionality independently.
***
Apple has announced that macOS 27 will no longer support Time Capsule (all models, from A1254 to A1470). This change is due to the deprecation of the AFP (Apple Filing Protocol), which Time Capsule relies on for Time Machine backups and file sharing.
Time Capsule continues to be used for:
- Automatic macOS backups
- Local network storage
- Home Wi-Fi routing
The removal of support could result in:
- Loss of access to existing backups, which may limit data recovery options
- Increased electronic waste, as functional devices become incompatible
- Additional costs for users who need to migrate earlier than expected
We respectfully request that Apple consider one or more of the following:
- Maintain basic read and restore compatibility for existing Time Capsule backups
- Provide a longer transition period before full deprecation
- If full support is removed, provide an open-source framework that allows the community to implement and maintain Time Capsule functionality independently
- Take into account the environmental implications of discontinuing support for operational devices
This petition is intended to highlight current use cases and encourage a transition that minimizes disruption, cost, and waste.
