Hi supporters!
Just moments ago Maine Governor Janet Mills announced that she will let the state of emergency expire on June 30th and with that, the requirement for masking our children within pre-k-12 schools will also be lifted. While this IS a win, they are still encouraging schools to have young children (under the age of 12) continue masking.
A remaining problem is that parents still aren’t likely to be heard within school districts. Additionally Governor Mills has fallen back on her promises many times throughout this situation. This is why I’m choosing to keep this petition going. I want to make sure this does actually happen come June 30th. Continue emailing the Department of Education commissioner, Pender Makin, to let your thoughts be known. And also consider reaching out to your individual school district. We need our schools to listen to the parents and the children! Many districts will likely follow the encouragements set by the state regardless of proven science in regards to children.
While this is a victory in the right direction for our next school year, the fight is far from over!
Thank you for your continued support!
