We have a great chance to bring back Maddie's next year. We want to thank you for all the love and support we've been receiving during this trying time. We love the support you've shown for our Weslaco location. We introduced this location back in 2019 as part of our solution to the dynamic response we received on our McAllen location. We've always been proactive to adapt to our community's needs. We are overwhelmed with gratitude! That said, never in the history of McAllen has there been a permit available that fits us so specifically. The "agritainment CUP permit " was adopted by the city of McAllen in December of 2024. It is meant to accommodate farms just like ours who offer exactly what we provide for the community. After years of flip flopping from "no permit needed " to "you can operate under a special events permit " to you need a CUP permit "to "you might be able to do the pumpkin patch under a mass gathering permit ", finally one that embodies the true nature of who we are. No one has ever applied for such a permit as it is new.
The stipulation is that our property needs to be rezoned as agricultural. This fits us perfectly!
We raise animals there and grow several crops throughout the year.
Our zone change application was submitted on September 14th 2026 and is due to be scrutinized on November 17, 2026 by the planning and zoning commission and on December 07, 2026 the final decision will be made by the same commissioners who moved to deny our yearly CUP permit on September 28th. They have another chance to make things right as it seems that this pathway was specifically laid out just for us. We pray that they lay any biases aside and consider furthering our journey to serve the community. We ask this of our Lord Jesus Christ! There is no precedent on which we can rely on but are sure that many properties similar to ours have been approved for this with slight Variances to regulations.
After approval, we get to apply for the "agritainment permit" which the city's head legal team recommended for us during our last meeting. We ask that you call these commissioners and the mayor and let them know that you're in favor of keeping Maddie's for future generations. If we keep our heads down, nothing is going to get better! Thank you!
