Teach Lower Level Grades More in Depth About Racial Injustice in America

Teach Lower Level Grades More in Depth About Racial Injustice in America
The Issue
PLEASE SHARE!
Students of America are taught too little, too late about the racial injustices seen in the US and around the globe. This petitions goal is to bring light to the issue and force academic officials to rethink their history curriculum and make it include more information about slavery, racism, institutionalized racism, and segregation.
With this petition, we demand that racism be taught consistently through American students’s academic careers beginning with elementary aged children, carrying on to middle school aged children, and high school aged teens. We demand that major school districts and teachers work together to implement new lessons in history units. Big names like MLK, Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael, Malcom X and other major civil rights leaders, should be included in this curriculum.
We demand that students of America are not just students of the US but students of the world and understand that racism is a prevalent issue in the lives of millions of people. By exposing students at a younger age to racism, they will be able to mange their futures better and will be less immune to allowing racial injustices to happen around them.
The #BLACK LIVES MATTER movement has sparked a plethora of flames under the American people. Both good and bad. Many people have shown disdain for the movement, a main cause being lack of knowledge, misinformation and poor education. By beginning our academic careers with knowledge regaining racism we will be able to move forward as a people and as a world united.
The fight for social and racial justice does not end until every persons voice is heard and everyone is on the same playing field. Education, for many, is the key to our world becoming a better place and we must work fast and as a community to end racism, prejudice, and hatred before it ends us. #BLACKLIVESMATTER
