Save Thorplands Park, Fraser Road,Northampton

The Issue

Please sign and share this petition to SAVE THORPLANDS FRASER ROAD PARK from the bulldozers !

This is the only free open space for miles, where we can safely let the dogs off the lead, sunbathe, play ball games and let the children run free. It's an oasis of beauty in an otherwise very built up area.

Northampton Partnership Homes want to build 125 new Properties here, mostly 4 storey flats. The natural beauty of this park has to be seen to be believed. Please make some time this week, to visit the park to fully understand what they plan to destroy, You will be surprised !

It's a beautiful landscape teeming with wildlife, many local residents have told us the same this week "it's the only place I feel safe"

We should not be forced into our cars to visit an open space. The park it self is one of amazing natural beauty, up on the huge hill, you can often see a family of foxes on the brow in silhouette at sun down, deer, woodpeckers, kingfisher, dragonfly are common sight, my son and I even spotted a Pine Marten during a lockdown daily walk. Huge Mature Pines mixed with all kind of trees add to the beauty of this spot.

It's with a heavy heart that I think this spot would never be considered for destruction if it were in a more affluent area ! Would this public park be bulldozed if it were in a posh area ?

I doubt it.

Please show your support and help save this beauty spot by signing the petition.

We don't need donations just moral support and signatures.

OUR OPEN LETTER TO NPH & WEST NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COUNCIL.

To NPH Asset Management, Northampton Partnership Homes, The Guildhall Northampton and to West Northamptonshire Council.

We the residents of Thorplands are totally opposed to any building on our Park/Field off Fraser Road.

This is the only open space we have! The only place to let dogs off a lead for a good run, the only open space to kick a ball around or spend a day foraging for pinecones. We jog, picnic, sunbathe and sledge in peace here.

Many members of our community say this is the only space on the estate where they feel SAFE!

Your planning letter is titled "NPH ASSET MANAGEMENT" By "asset" I assume you mean Bricks & Mortar and Pounds & Pence.

To us this park is an asset, it's an asset to our well being.
We don't want our children to sit at home on PlayStations, we want them out running on the field.

How often have you heard older people say "We didn't have anything as kids and we were happy, we would take ourselves out into the fields and make our own fun"

Well personally that's what my children have done over the years on the our field! And I've met dozens of people this week tell similar stories from their own family outings up to the park.

We don't need anything done to the field, its perfect just as it is!

I learnt today that central Government has highlighted the Talavera Ward as being a deprived area and has been added to the "Left Behind List" and specifically lacking in Open Free Spaces!

Yet here you are wanting to bulldoze our last remaining open space!

A space of amazing natural beauty, teeming with wildlife.

The local support for this petition has taken us all by surprise 400+ signatures here in just a few days, with other petitions on the go. Young people are mobilising and organising family picnics and Photography walks.

We will fight this all the way, we are now having local media contacting US!

And we have only just begun.

My message to the newly formed West Northamptonshire Council is a simple one. Don't follow in the footsteps of our last failed Council. Listen to the people, be with the people and work with the people you represent.... US!
