Hi everyone,
If you picked up a Slow Down in Our Town sign two weeks ago for the Park Avenue area, it’s time to rotate them now to another street in town. (They will make their way back to Park if needed.)
Please drop them off at my house, on the corner of Park and Chaucer, where you picked them up—either by end of day Sunday or first thing Monday morning on your way to work or school dropoff, if possible. You can just leave them by my steps or on the patio, wherever you see a stack, for pickup by the DPW.
If you need any more recycling bin stickers, I still have them and (from noon on) will leave some extra on a table on my patio for pickup when you drop off the signs.
Why Do We Rotate the Signs?
After repeated exposure to the signs over an extended period of time, drivers become used to them and don’t really “see” them anymore. By rotating them to different streets in town, the signs are seen by new sets of drivers and by local drivers in new locations, expanding and reinforcing the message that speed limits should be followed in ALL areas of town. The signs are sturdy enough that they should be able to be reused over and over.
While the signs are being rotated, the recycling bin stickers remain in each location where the signs have been placed. Every two weeks, when we put out our recycling bins along the streets, drivers should see a series of bins—typically visible during morning rush—with bright yellow stickers as a reminder.
Thank you all so much for your help in continuing to make Berkeley Heights’ roads even safer!
