I've been struggling with a slow computer and the dream to become better within the tech industry. The solution to my problem, and similar struggles faced by many others, is better equipment like efficient CPUs, RAMs, motherboards, and graphics cards. However, the exorbitant 18% GST on these essential items is a significant roadblock for many of us, especially in today's volatile job market. An ordinary 21-year-old inspired to learn coding, or a passionate individual intending to pursue a career in design or film editing, cannot afford these overpriced tools that are pivotal to productivity and learning. Launched in July 2017, the GST on Information Technology (IT) products has been standardized at 18%, as per the Goods and Services Tax Council. This pricing model severely disadvantages the youth and others who aspire to gain technical skills but are restricted because of prohibitive costs. Lowering the GST rate on these products would facilitate affordability, thereby increasing accessibility for everyone. Let's request our policy makers to understand the importance of easy access to advanced technology in this digital age, and thereby realize the need to reduce the GST on computer peripherals.
