As a student facing the financial burdens of higher education, it is disheartening to encounter additional costs for something as essential as parking. In Baton Rouge, where tuition costs are already sky-high, the excessive parking fees add an unnecessary strain on students. It's unreasonable to pay exorbitant prices for parking passes, especially when the guarantee of a spot is not even certain due to oversold passes and limited spaces.

The irony lies in paying thousands of dollars to attend an institution, only to be charged excessively to park there. The situation becomes worse when you consider that alternative transportation like the Tiger Trails bus service, though available, is not a feasible option for everyone. Not every student has access to a Tiger Trail bus stop, and the system would be overwhelmed if every student were to rely on it.

Furthermore, the scarcity of parking spaces makes it imperative to expand the availability of parking for students, without the burden of additional fees. The university must consider the financial hardships many students endure and work towards providing adequate and affordable parking solutions. By lowering or eliminating parking fees, and developing more parking areas, we can significantly ease the financial strain on students and solve the issue of inadequate parking access.

Education is an investment in our future, and students should not be deprived of basic necessities due to financial burdens.
