In 1977, the federal government responded with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). FERC took the bold step of deregulating the energy industry, leaving it up to individual states to decide how to supply energy to energy users.

Thanks to the state's deregulated energy market, residents in Delaware have a diverse choice of electricity providers. This allows them to save money on Delaware electricity rates by finding the right pricesand plans for Then, but what about the gas? And what about those who don’t qualify?

Over the last several months those of all races, ages, and income levels have been impacted by the increase in electric but mainly gas rates from Delmarva Power. The increases come without an explanation and errors on Delmarvas behalf. Some who have no gas received bills, those who’ve changed services received higher bills, most of all those who can’t afford these rates have no heat or lights. Why is it new castle county has lower rates in different areas like Middletown paying $190 a month but 20 minutes away in new castle and Wilmington the bills are $600 a month? 

We need a deregulation in place, we need the rates to be reviewed, we need some accountability. Just like we as consumers are held accountable for the services we receive , we need this company to be held accountable for their part also. Our families, our mothers, our Children live in these homes, the elderly , the sick, we need a change.
