If you want to see a success when it comes to spay/neuter programs, just look at what the state of Massachusetts has done.
Thanks to their low-cost spay neuter program and robust TNR program, MA led the nation for 10 years in reducing overpopulation. When Covid hit and the clinics closed for two years, the feral cat population started to grow once again. Now MA has opened their clinics and is incentivizing citizens to TNR as well as alter their own animals.
Because MA has successfully controlled their animal numbers, states like SC have a place to transport unwanted yet healthy and socialized rescue animals. We are ever grateful for our partnerships in MA in helping to control the population in SC, but now it's time for us to do more. Instead of relying on other states for their good works, we need to start our own programs and reduce our populations.
