Louie French MP Needs to Act to Improve Security Measures on Glenhurst Avenue
The Issue
Residents of Glenhurst Avenue in Bexley, have fallen victim to an endless wave of car thefts in the past few months. We have had 6 vehicles stolen from our drives, causing not only significant financial loss but also a sense of insecurity in our own homes. We implore our local MP Louie French and local councillors to take immediate action on this matter.
Thieves are now resorting to jamming wifi signals on security doorbells and cameras as well as taping them up so we're unable to verify their identities using traditional security methods.
The proposed course of action is straightforward: we want increased police presence on our streets, especially during hours of darkness when most thefts occur. An upgrade in security measures, such as more frequent patrols and deploying unmarked vehicles, could make a significant difference in curbing this dire issue. Alongside these, installation of CCTV cameras would serve as a deterrent and aid in evidence collection in case of any foul play.
In 2019, the UK faced the biggest surge in vehicle thefts in over 50 years with around 114 cars being stolen each day, as outlined in data released by the Office for National Statistics. This is a national crisis that requires concrete actions on a local level to make significant change.
Our local residents are enduring the effects of these high crime rates. Our peace and security have been compromised and it's time for our representatives to step up and ensure the safety within our communities.
We kindly and urgently urge everyone, beyond Glenhurst Avenue residents, to take a stand and sign this petition today. Let our combined voices reach our local MP and councillors and compel them into prompt action. Your participation will be instrumental in restoring safety to our homes and streets.
