Dear fellow LACMA Lover,

Thank you for joining more than 1550 concerned citizens who have signed the petition urging the Los Angeles County Supervisors to reconsider their approval of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for LACMA's redevelopment plan.

Last April the Los Angeles County Supervisors rushed its vote to move forward with the flawed new LACMA building project, less than two weeks after the Environmental Impact Report was published, and in the face of overwhelming public and critical opposition. Since that time, opposition to the project has only grown.

On Wednesday November 6, a new governing body will consider the project, when the Los Angeles City Council’s Public Works and Gang Reduction Committee reviews the museum’s request to take possession of the city airspace over Wilshire Boulevard for the new building, which is a bridge.

We believe that the city has a responsibility to carefully consider this request, to listen to the community and to the critics, and to debate the matter in full City Council rather than voting “yes” during an obscure mid-week committee meeting.

Won’t you please take a moment to either email City Council or show up in City Hall on Wednesday afternoon to make public comment? When you do, ask City Council to listen to the community’s concerns about LACMA, about the bridge over Wilshire, and about the many unanswered questions surrounding this incredibly expensive building that will result in a much smaller museum.

TO MAKE PUBLIC COMMENT IN PERSON: If coming to City Council, the committee meeting is Wednesday, November 6 at 1pm in Room 350 at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Subject line: Re: City Council File No. 17-0545: Vacation of a portion of Wilshire Boulevard between Spaulding Avenue and Stanley Avenue, Airspace Vacation, VAC- E1401310

Sample email (which you can change or add to so it best expresses your feelings):

Dear Council Members,

I am very concerned about LACMA’s proposed new building, and the museum’s request for a street vacation so that it can be built in city airspace over Wilshire Boulevard. This project has many serious problems that have been widely reported in the press, and more than 1500 people have signed a petition asking the County Supervisors to reconsider their approval. I am asking you not to vote yes on a street vacation at your committee meeting on November 6, but to send this very serious matter on to full City Council for a proper debate. Although the project falls only in CD4, it is of concern to all Angelenos, and to the wider community of art lovers around the world. Thank you for your careful consideration of the future of LACMA.

sincerely,
(Name, City, ZIP code)
