I’ve continued pushing for a protected bicycle lane on Long Beach Road in Island Park, but unfortunately Nassau County’s Traffic Engineering Assistant Director, Daniel Winkelman, continues to refuse to even conduct a traffic study to evaluate the feasibility.

He’s decided on his own that it isn’t needed and that the existing shoulder is good enough for bicycles. In other words, the County isn’t willing to collect any data or even look at ways to make this dangerous road safer for people who bike.
