Lobbying and Campaign Funding in America should be ILLEGAL!
The Issue
My journey into politics revealed to me that financial might often drowns out the voices of dedicated, capable candidates. Big money from super PACs and lobbyists consistently skews the political landscape and overshadows honest political efforts. There is utmost urgency for a change to the regulation of lobbying and campaign funding in this great nation.
Reports indicate that more than $14 billion was spent on the 2020 election, with a significant portion coming from super PACs and lobbying firms (Center for Responsive Politics, 2020).And we are spending more this election, reports suggest $15.9 billion! All of this money simply spent on ads and rallies for a specific time period. That money could be far better used in other endeavors!
That’s not all, companies buy out congressmen because of lobbying. The government can provide equal coverage of all candidates rather than have private funding of elections. These PACs are also the reason so many congressmen are blindly supporting war now! Not to mention other systemic issues such as pharmaceuticals regulation and media regulation.
We must institute policies that hold lobbyists and super PACs accountable, ensuring equity in our political discourse. We must ban super PACs and restrict lobbying so that the pursuit of democracy does not become a pursuit for the highest bid. Such mechanisms have now put global stability and world order at risk due to private intelligence, defense and other moneyed interests buying out congressmen.
Domestic politics of one nation cannot effect global geopolitics to the extent it does currently.
This is not just a political issue; it's a matter of preserving the integrity of our democracy and the equality of all voices. The public must get equal coverage of both sides of any argument and opinion. PACs have militarized funds and media de facto violating the free speech and free assembly of another by highjacking it with propaganda.
lobbying interferes with democracy, and it adds no benefit to democracy. It is illegal in many countries. It should be made illegal in America also!
