THE FIFA Ballon D'or will be given to the footballer adjudged to be the best in the world today (Monday, January 12).
The annual gala rewards world football's elite, with three star names in the running to pick up the ultimate individual prize of World Player of the Year for 2014 tonight.
They are Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi of Barcelona and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, of Bayern Munich and Germany.
The Ballon D'or itself is just one of the awards to be handed out, with prizes also including the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year.
Nadine Kessler of Germany goes up against Marta of Brazil and the USA's Abby Wambach for that title.
Trophies for World Coach of the Year in the men's and women's games will be presented, while the Puskas Award for Goal of the Year has been one of the most talked-about prizes in this year's awards.
World Cup goals scored by Robin van Persie and James Rodriguez have both made the final shortlist, along with Stephanie Roche of Ireland, for a wonder strike for Peamount United against Wexford Youths.
The gala will be held at FIFA's Kongresshaus in Zurich from 5.30pm, with live coverage on Sky Sports 5.
