First of all I would like to thank all of the teachers, staff, students and administration for all the kind words and cards while going through my heart procedures.
Last night while helping my daughter with her homework I realized something. Today’s education is just about process of elimination, and learning how to find an answer fast on a multiple choice problem. So all we are teaching is strategize to take a test, not learning a subject. Teachers this is not your fault. You are having to do this in order for our children to make certain scores, so that the higher administration sees improvement, and can pat each other on the back, and show us the numbers are great and our children are learning. I call bull shit, teaching a child to take a test is only one tiny part of education. Teaching true subjects such as math, history, science, and English are what we are missing. The Hill spends too much time wasting the years our children have to learn by making their numbers look good for them and the state, and God forbid a teacher’s class score low on a benchmark, or TEEKS. Then they are looked at as a bad teacher. We have great teachers in our school system that want to teach our children, but are held back from doing so. The people of the community could care less how the numbers look, but care more about a true education for our children. If you take the waste of time sitting at a school board meeting all you will hear is how good our fearless part –time superintendent is doing and how well the numbers are looking, and the parading of children through the meeting room like cattle , just to help them sleep at night. I speak for the community when I say quit spending our money of new schools, and buildings, rebuild our infrastructure from the inside out, get rid of teacher’s and administration who are just there to collect a check, and let our teachers actually do their jobs, and not worry about the stats. Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.
Thank You,
Jason Bates
