This article’s sole purpose is to inform the LISD community on the problems our teachers and staff are facing in our special education department. Since taking on this battle to help our teachers, staff, and children I have heard many awful things from sexual assault, teachers being told to place children in equipment that is illegal to use, nurses watching as teachers struggle to change diapers of young ladies during their monthly cycle that are not trained to do while being laughed at by a supposedly medical professional, children’s special needs that are so bad that a medical professional have told LISD they should be institutionalized yet they refuse to , and threaten to call them racist due to the fact of the color of a child’s skin. To be honest I could go on forever with all the information I see on a daily basis. While most of you sleep well at night this is what keeps me awake. I have to help these children who seem to be being ignored and abused right under our noses. It has gotten so bad that aids have just walked out due to the fact they cannot handle the unprofessional issues they are being forced to do by administration. It is now our jobs as community members, and parents to ask our school board to investigate our special education department for the safety of our teachers, aids, and children. I cannot do this alone I need help. This is an outrage and we should all be angry. This is not the first time our special education department has been under fire. They have had many complaints filed against them by parents of special needs children that resulted in a TEA investigation. If we the LISD community keep letting this happen under our noses, we are just as guilty as our administration. Talk to you district board member, call DR. Mack do not allow this abuse continue. Find the root of the problem and replace it with a person who cares about the job, not just the title. Teachers, and staff please don’t let this continue to happen, report all problems to CPS. If our administration won’t protect our children, then we will protect them this way. This has to stop! I make one promise to LISD administration, if this problem is not solved I will personally make your job harder than it’s ever been, to the point you will leave. I am hoping that this article will find its way into those individuals’ hands that are responsible for this and know that I will never quit. “You must be a light unto yourself.” Thank You, Jason Bates
