Equal Opportunity for Online LISD Students

Equal Opportunity for Online LISD Students
The Issue
Lewisville ISD is offering virtual learning for high school students who do not feel safe attending school due to COVID-19. However, several courses, including many AP, are not available online and must be taken in-person. This is unjust as the lack of course availability denies students and parents their right to choose how they will return to school.
One of the pillars of this school district is student learning which occurs when LISD provides meaningful and relevant educational opportunities. Limiting these educational opportunities for students who opt for the online plan, not only inhibits the ability for these students to learn, but prohibits equal opportunities for all students.
The educational platform chosen by the school district is also concerning. Edgenuity has a faulty reputation and is known for logging students out during activities. This adds unnecessary stress. The educational platform Edgenuity does not live up to the quality standards of LISD.
The education of LISD students who choose online schooling should not be compromised. These courses ought to be available online in some way. With the technological advancements of today, students should be able to take these courses either through a phenomenal, educational platform or by taking it synchronously with their school campus by calling through a video conference app.
