Yesterday, we passed 3000 signatures, and I feel like now is the time to tell more of my story. As you may know, in February my Ex partner walked into her local council and exploited the fact that the NSW pet registry doesn’t link to any other registry in Australia. The fact that it doesn’t is a NATIONAL disgrace, and is probably the reason you signed this petition. But there’s more. The companion Animals Act in NSW is a very flawed document, that needs updating in several key areas. Actually, it could pretty much use a full re-write. My goal with this petition is to not only make that happen, but to find THE MOST QUALIFIED PEOPLE to make that happen - People who ONLY have the love of animals and the protection of their families, and the community at heart. If you are one of those people – someone who knows the problems with the act, and has ideas on how to FIX it, please reach out to me @caliandsnickers (FB & IG). I want people like you to have a voice. Did you know that a Microchip costs 80c to make, and is sold to vets for around $15? Each chip maker owns or is affiliated with a registry, and when you use their chip, most times, that’s the registry your pet is registered to. THIS is why the registries are not linked. Money. Plain and simple. But it’s not just the act that’s the problem. It’s negligence and apathy when registering pets. Despite the lack of a linked registry, there are numerous safeguards that should have prevented my dogs from being stolen. Many of these were ignored. When this petition hits 3500 signatures I will be talking more about what happened to me specifically. Until then, I am asking for one more favor. With 3000 signatories and counting, I’m sure many of you know influencers, be they animal warriors, celebrities, or amazing journalists. Please reach out to them.
