Lindsay (the forgotten residential) Road - It's time to consider the residents
The issue
The petition of the undersigned residents of Buderim respectfully shows that:
Council has historically regarded Lindsay Road as a connector road. The road is “dressed” as a non-stop, 60kmh transit route without consideration given to residents or families using the stretch.
However, the section of Lindsay Road between Tulip Lane and Quorn Close has a true primary function as a residential and community street, used daily by families, school children, pedestrians, and local residents.
Despite being a busy pedestrian and cyclist route, this section of Lindsay Road's need for safety improvements has been ignored, while other entrances to Buderim Village are now 50km/h despite many having fewer homes, better sight lines, wider parking lanes, and footpaths on both sides.
The reality of Lindsay Road:
Road Geometry: includes winding curves, blind corners and crest, plus a well-known sharp corner with no designated crossings.
Traffic vs Residential Facts:
Almost 400 residences are within this stretch, with a further 280+ down side streets. By traffic assessment metrics, it’s clear most of the traffic is local, not simply a thoroughfare.
The road conditions, prevalence of speeding and lack of warning signs to alert drivers of local residents crossing the road to access the footpath or bus stops, make it very dangerous.
Use: the road predominantly services our local residents.
Pedestrian activity: pedestrians, including school children, families with prams, and elderly residents cross the road frequently throughout the day. Northern and Western side residents are forced to cross to the single-sided footpath, southern side residents are forced to cross to two school bus stops. Cyclists (often with children on board) travel frequently along the stretch.
The current road conditions on this section of Lindsay Road present significant safety concerns for residents, pedestrians, and vulnerable road users.
Your petitioners therefore respectfully request that Council:
Recognise the section of Lindsay Road between Tulip Lane and Quorn Close is not solely a connector road, but is used more as a residential road within Buderim; and Take action to improve safety for residents and pedestrians along this section of road, including (but not limited to):
- Installing safe pedestrian crossings,
- Providing adequate signage and line marking,
- Implementing traffic calming measures, and
- Reviewing and reducing speed limits to bring them into line with other main feeder roads around the top of Buderim.
- Improve footpath along northern side of road.
And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
