I was a child forced to eat Lima beans, an experience that left a traumatic imprint on me. Like many others, I believe these unpleasant legumes should be a thing of the past. In the spirit of advancing our culinary practices and preserving our children’s taste buds, this petition proposes the specialty use of Lima beans and aims to ban their rampant use in common dishes where normal beans are typically used. Lima beans' high purchase rate stems from their widespread use in various dishes, and not because of their taste appeal, thereby fooling many into buying them. A survey by Today claims that Lima beans are one of the most detested vegetables by Americans (Today, 2017). Such data and my personal experience underline the necessity of limiting Lima beans to specialty status, sparing future generations the same traumatic experiences.
