The Issue

As an alumnus of the Marching Chiefs and an avid football fan, I have witnessed a concerning trend over the course of my experience at the Florida State University (FSU) games. The rich tradition of live music by the Marching Chiefs is being overshadowed by the increasing utilization of DJ or piped in music. This affects the authentic game day experience, denying both fans and student musicians the unique blend of athletics and arts that makes FSU games special.

The Marching Chiefs, established in 1937, has been a significant part of the FSU athletic experience, providing their talent and atmosphere to many games, fostering a unique spirit of unity and enthusiasm. Limiting their performances at games diminishes the tradition and hinders the opportunity for these skilled musicians to share their talent and passion for the art form.

In a survey by Gallup poll, live music experiences, such as those provided by marching bands at sporting events, account for 55% of the most memorable and emotionally intense music experiences for people. Therefore, it is high time to bring back the charm and energy that the Marching Chiefs can usher in.

This petition aims to request the FSU Athletics department to reduce the amount of DJ music and increase the opportunities for the Marching Chiefs to perform, thereby preserving the unique FSU traditional experience. Please join me in this effort to maintain the integral role of our Marching Chiefs at FSU games. Please sign the petition.
