Limit and ban solitary confinement in prisons

Limit and ban solitary confinement in prisons
The Issue
Thousands of inmates in jails and prisons are spending days, months, even years in solitary confinement. Locked in cages for 23 hours a day with barely any contact with other humans. They are deprived of mail, visitations, or even phone calls. This is a violation of human rights and needs to be stopped! We cannot allow our justice system to continue such inhumane practices.
A personal connection drives my plea for change: several friends and family members have faced or are still enduring the harsh reality of solitary confinement. Imagine suffering the loss of a loved one and, instead of receiving support, being isolated further to prevent attending their funeral. This is not justice, it's a profound cruelty that needs addressing.
Research by the American Psychological Association and other authorities highlights the devastating psychological effects of solitary confinement. Depression, anxiety, and severe mental health issues are rampant among those subjected to such conditions. The United Nations once compared it to torture, declaring it as a measure that should be used only in exceptional cases.
There are more effective and humane alternatives available. Creating rehabilitative systems focused on mental health support, education, and community integration can help reduce recidivism while treating inmates with the dignity and respect every human deserves.
Help end this archaic practice that shames our society and scars countless lives. Demand action from lawmakers to limit and eventually ban the use of solitary confinement within our jails and prisons. Sign the petition and champion human rights today.
