Hello Supporters,
Just a quick update to tell you some great news.
Betacom, a lighting supplier here in NZ, can produce nature-kind, sky-friendly, energy efficient, amber LEDs at only 10-20% more cost (than brighter white 3000K LEDs).
This means we have an affordable and practical option available.
Now we have to convince the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) who co-funds retrofits that they are viable, which will be tricky because the NZTA don't even have a 3000K LED on their current approved m-30 list - which guides municipalities on street lighting.
(All luminaires listed are bright white, blue-rich LEDs between 3900 - 4100K, known to be disruptive to human health and harmful to wildlife. They are also particularly hazardous for drivers as they cause discomfort and disability glare.)
