Lift the GitHub Account Ban on Syria

Lift the GitHub Account Ban on Syria
The Issue
As a Syrian developer, I am greatly affected by the United States-imposed sanctions that prohibit Syrians from owning GitHub accounts. For those unfamiliar with my situation, let me clarify: Most Syrian developers, myself included, work remotely for companies based outside of Syria. We are not part of the old regime or the new one, nor are we a group of developers that need to be restrained from using GitHub.
In reality, this ban only hinders development and professional growth in Syria. It is counterproductive and doesn't bring any real value or security for the intention it was established for. Additionally, it overlooks the huge potential Syria could contribute to the world in the fields of technology and digital development.
GitHub is more than just a tool for developers - it's a platform for collaboration, creativity, and growth. By blocking Syrians from access, the US is not only stifling innovation but crippling an entire generation of Syrian developers.
We believe the exclusion to be both unfair and unproductive. Not only does it prohibit Syrian individuals and enterprises from participating in a fundamental aspect of today's digital society, but it also overlooks the significant contribution these developers could make towards global technological advancements.
Therefore, we urge you to consider our plea and lift the GitHub account ban on Syria, allowing talented Syrian developers to contribute to the global community and work on intellectually stimulating and economically beneficial projects worldwide. Join us in this plea and sign our petition. Together, we can create change.
